With 6 months to go, there are many important things to do. There is no time to waste organiing such items as passports as t can take time to have papers passing through bureacratic hands.
Below are items to consider in your preparations for your trip.
__ 1. Identify ONE place where all your planning and notes can be held.
I use a folder on my computer plus a book. My book is a place where I will store many things.

__ 2. Plan and book accommodation
__ 3. Passport - Check it is valid or Apply for a passport.
__ 4. Visas - are Visas required for your travel destinations?
__ 5. Research options for working overseas
Prepare resumes, document copies (birth certificate, references)
__ 6. Compare prices and services offered
__ 7. Organise passes - Eurail, tour, museum, heritage.
__ 8. Organise travel insurance when organising your flights or before making a large purchase related to your travel.
__ 9. If not completed, consider booking all flights and travel arrangments.
__ 10. Baggage - shop aroud if you require baggage.
Consider your transport, degree of changing transport and how easy this will be.
Think about how much you really need to take in your baggage - can a smaller bag suffice?
__ 11. Accommodation needs to be researched if not already completed.
Research your travel accommodation now.
__ 12. Internet access Research where you will be able to access if this is required.
__ 13. Check the weather predictions for when you will be away.
Do you need to shop for clothing? Start now.
__ 14. Currency - buy at the best rate.
Watch the currency fluctuations from this month on the News or on the Internet.
Buy foreign currencies cheapest at a bank.
Select a large bank, else ensure you leave time to have notes shipped into smaller branches.
