Walking in history is a funny feeling. Stranger still was walking on roads and kicking up dust with our shoes as did Roman and Etruscan warriors in the past. It is both eerie and sheer fascination to feel and touch the past as we travelled through Italy. Walking on the paths of so many before. In Rome at the Colosseum, I knelt where warriors had battled and were slain. At Pompeii, I stood beside a fallen citizen who had suffocated breathing searing dust from Vesuvius. At Pompeii, I stood beneath the mighty Aquarius Aqueduct which brought life to this desolate area of Italy. Standing there it was breathtaking to think that humans built this feat of engineering to deliver the essence of Roman civilisation to Europe through water and their bath houses. In Italy I found it simply awe inspiring, timeless, and sophisticated all rolled into one. We could do almost anything from sip caffè and watch people from the Spanish Steps in Rome, or climb around Cinque Terre or simply get lost in the magnificent side streets of Venice and Florence or in the beautiful, colourful and gentle country-side of Tuscany, sip fine wine in Chianti or even ski in Alta Badia.
