We arrived in Rome Italy with unwarranted trepidation mixed with incredible excitement. After all, we were now on Italian soil and this was once caput mundi, or capital of the world.
It is easy to feel safe in Roma with so many different types of police. It is strange the things you notice.
We arrived at our our world's best accommodation right in the centre of Rome, our very own albergo Roma centro by hire car from Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. Once checked in, we set about walking all over this amazing city. We walked the ancient cobbled roads where Roman Senators had walked, where centurians had marched.
We tossed a coin into Trevi Fountain, we heard the roar of the crowd in the Colosseum, we joined the crowds admiring Michelangelo's beautiful art on the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, and enjoyed the embrace of the colonades by Bernini in St Peter's Square.
We were captivated by the Spanish Steps, with nearby Keats house, elegant Piazza di Spagna, and the luxury shops along Via Condotti were an eye opener.
We danced around the Piazza Navona, with an ice cream and gelato in hand enjoying the artists and entertainers and supped at one of the many delicious restaurants.
We also found essentials like Stazione Termini where we would catch a train to Frascati and the Eurostar to Florence and Venice.
Finding banks was also essential.
We touched the 2000 year stone columns of the Pantheon and contemplated the people who entered. It is an inspiration of grandness. Its size begs the question,
How did they do it ?
In fact all of Rome is an inspiration
to the human spirit, adventure, order, art, visions of better things, ...
